Bidding on Priceline; Learn How to Save Money on your Travel Expenses by Bidding on Priceline.com
Bidding on Priceline is a great way to save money on your travel plans. It is particularly good for savings on airfare, motel, or rental cars—in fact the average bidder saves at least 30% over the lowest posted price on the web.
I have personally saved a lot of money using Priceline.com. I have gotten airplane tickets for $60 less than the price on other sites, and real bargains on 3 star or higher motel rooms.
How do you bid on Priceline ?
Before you start, shop around to see what the going rate is for the motel room or airline ticket you are considering a bid on. Check out the other major travel sites, so you have a rough idea of what the average price is.
Check out the zone/maps and neighborhoods to see what is available before you book your motel/hotel. Also, see how far the available motels are off the highway, so you can have an idea of where you would be staying.
Go to the “name your price” section and submit your highest price you are willing to pay. It is important that you read all the terms and conditions before submitting your price. Remember, once you submit it, you cannot bid again for 72 hours. Also, if your price is accepted, your credit card is immediately charged. You cannot cancel or change your reservation. You can buy “protection” for motel reservations for $5.00 a night extra, in case you do need to change your stay.
Also, when submitting your price, keep in mind that there are often fees/taxes on top of this. I have found that the average motel stay has an additional $11-12 in fees on top of your bid.
For airfares, remember to be as flexible as possible in your timing. Be willing to take a red-eye flight if possible. Another tip is to have several different airports you are willing to fly out of.

If rejected, you may bid again by changing some terms. You may change things like the area or city of your stay, the day you are traveling, or what star level of motel you are willing to accept. If you can’t change these things, remember to try again in 72 hours.
Once you have an accepted bid, be sure to confirm it with the hotel/motel, rental car agency, or airline, just to be safe. Also, if you need a non-smoking motel room, or specific bedding, call the motel in advance to reserve what you need. Always print out your confirmation number.
You may not wish to use Priceline.com if you could possibly have to change your travel plans, if you need to fly at a very specific time, or if you do not have time to research the best prices to make an informed bid.
In conclusion, I highly recommend bidding on Priceline. It has always saved me money, and it can save you money also. Give it a try!
