Graphing the budget monthly

by Kathryn S
(Beaverton, OR)

Using a composition notebook (graph paper), I delineate the spending categories across the top and in parentheses under each, the amount, by percentage, available per category. As the month progresses, I simply subtract as expenses are made/paid by category. This allows me to see what I have and even make decisions to float monies from one expense category to another as the exceptions arise. When balancing my budget book, I always round my expenses up to the nearest dollar leaving an added buffer over time of monies in my account - a gift to myself from which I can glean more savings.
